At Colebourne we aim to equip all pupils with the skills and confidence to solve a range of problems through fluency with numbers and mathematical reasoning. Children are encouraged to see the mathematics that surround them every day and enjoy developing vital life skills in this subject.

In accordance with DfE expectations, there is a high focus on investigative, problem-solving activities where children can use and apply, and broaden and deepen their learning.

Our Maths curriculum follows the National Curriculum in all year groups. We teach mathematics to whole classes and do not label children. Lessons are planned based on formative assessment of what students already know and we include all children in learning mathematical concepts. Staff plan using guidance and resources from the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) and from White Rose Maths; this is a scheme of work produced by the Maths Hub – who are a team of specialist maths teachers. Below you will find links to the medium and long term plans for each year group.

We also subscribe to online learning activities that the children can access in school and at home to help them with their maths work:

Education City has a range of learning activities, games and challenges – click here for our Education City Page;

We also share with parents the medium term plans that we use to guide our teaching . You can view and download these via our Maths Resources file area. These can really help parents understand what children in each year group are expected to be able to understand.

If you have any questions regarding maths or require support to help your child at home- please get in touch with your child’s class teacher or our Maths Leader, Mr. Cannon (j.cannon@colebourne.bham.sch.uk)
